The previous year saw a renewed interest in the condition known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). One particular phenomenon that raised awareness of the condition was the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which was taken on by Hollywood celebrities and even business tycoons. Another was the release of renowned physicist and ALS patient Stephen Hawking’s biopic The Theory of Everything. Most people are now aware of how devastating it can be for the families of ALS patients to have a loved one suffering from this neurodegenerative condition. Not everyone, however, may know how to support and take care of an ALS sufferer. Showing support and care for a loved one with ALS may not be an easy task, but with the right assistance, you can at least help them maintain their quality of life.
